Airmen Helping Airmen: McConnell’s New Food Pantry

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. — There’s a new way Team McConnell is taking care of its own. A food pantry has officially opened inside the Base Chapel, giving Airmen and families easy, discreet access to free non-perishable items whenever they need them.

The pantry is a joint effort between the 22nd Air Refueling Wing Chapel team, the McConnell Commissary, and community donors. Chaplain Darrell Fennell, one of the program’s founders, said the idea came together quickly once they realized there was a need. “This pantry was created and supported by everyone — from leadership to first sergeants, supervisors, and fellow Airmen,” Fennell shared.

Volunteers are now the biggest need to keep the effort running smoothly. “The pantry might be located at the chapel, but it’s not a chapel-led program,” Fennell said. “We rely on volunteers for food pickups, stocking, and helping anyone who stops by.” according to www.mcconnell.af.mil.

Food insecurity is a growing concern in the military community. Recent studies show that nearly one in four active-duty households experiences some level of food insecurity. The McConnell food pantry aims to ease that burden by providing consistent access to essentials and by tracking usage to strengthen future support programs.

For now, the goal is simple — spread the word and grow the team of volunteers. It’s one more way McConnell lives out the idea of Airmen helping Airmen.

It aligns perfectly with her message of inclusion, leadership, and hands-on problem solving.
Stacy spent time walking the expo floor, talking with attendees, listening to concerns, and sharing her vision for Kansas.

She emphasized her dedication to “honest leadership with no strings attached,” drawing from her background as a lifelong Kansan, small business owner, and community advocate.
-
The Man Show Expo itself was a success, featuring cars, power tools, fitness gear, outdoor adventures, and technology exhibits. The atmosphere was upbeat, engaging, and full of positive energy, making it an ideal spot for Stacy to connect with voters in a casual setting.

What This Means for Her Campaign
By participating in a major local event like this, Stacy continues to prove that her campaign is about real conversations with real Kansans. She is reaching beyond political events and connecting with everyday people who care about jobs, family, and the future of the state. Her authenticity stood out. As a business owner, mother, and Kansan who truly understands local challenges, Stacy’s presence at The Man Show Expo reinforced her message that leadership begins with listening and serving.
